Seek Forevermore
Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore! 1 Chronicles 16:11
If you have been around this ministry for a while, you know that the subject of seeking God is front and center. To go deeper with God and be strengthened by the Word, we must seek Him with diligence. That means it's more than reading a verse here or there or saying a quick prayer before you eat.
It's often a process for me to get to the place of fellowship with God. I have so much going on that it takes time to empty my brain and clear myself from other distractions (my phone). I don't know if this happens to you, but the minute I sit down to pray and have my time with God, a million things flood my mind about what I need to do or ideas about this and that. I have found that having a place to "brain dump" is valuable. When you write down your thoughts, it helps prepare your mind to hear from God.
I then start my "God time" by worshipping Him and writing down what I'm thankful for. There is no better way to get into the presence of God than by offering praise and thanksgiving. Remembering and being deliberate with your thanks gets your mind and spirit ready to receive from Him.
I then spend time in prayer. Sometimes I have to go back and use my brain dump to stay focused. Don't feel like you have to have specific prayers during this time. Sometimes the best thing to do is just sit in God's presence and be open to hear His voice. If you feel like He is speaking something to your heart, write it down. I also take time to pray in the spirit. I know that "freaks" some people out, but it is biblical and needful to go deeper and seek God's wisdom for your life. I liken it to a power tool. Take, for instance, cutting down a tree. You could cut that tree down with an ax and get the job done, OR you can use a power saw. The end result is the same, but as we know, the power saw gets the job done quicker and with less effort from you. Praying in the spirit does the same thing. It seems to get the answers and wisdom I need faster.
Then, of course, I read the Word. Most of the time, the Holy Spirit will speak to you through what He has already written in the Bible. I like to read a whole chapter and then look for one verse that stood out. I rewrite that verse and then journal about what I feel the Holy Spirit is speaking to me about. This has been such a powerful process.
I made a devotional journal to help you do all of this. You can download the Seek Him for each month below, which follows this daily devotional (this month on courage). Or you have the option of downloading a different devotional journal by clicking on this link. It contains everything I listed above and includes a prayer focus each day to help you in your prayer time. Again, you can download it here. Either way, make seeking the Lord a priority, and you will be greatly rewarded with His strength for each day.
Dear Lord, help me to prioritize seeking your face every day. I love you with all of my heart. Amen.
