Stir Up the Gift
Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." Hebrews 13:5
There is no more incredible gift than having the Holy Spirit live inside us, helping and guiding us 24/7. However, how many of us don’t take advantage of our advantage? I think it’s safe to say we are all in that category.
Paul reminds us in 2 Timothy 1:6 to not forget this incredible gift. He says, “Therefore, I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” If we are told to stir up the gift, it implies that it can settle and not have the effect we desire. In the mornings, I take a probiotic that is in powder form and must be mixed with water, stirred, and then drank. If I haven’t drank it quick enough, I have to stir the drink again because the powder has settled to the bottom.
The Holy Spirit operates the same way. He is in our hearts with us all the time, but if we don’t feel Him, it’s probably because we haven’t stirred Him up in our lives. We haven’t mixed His power into our day-to-day activities but instead left Him at church or in our little devotion time.
So how do we stir up the gift of the Holy Spirit inside of us? Talk to Him throughout the day, listen to uplifting Christian music, and listen to power-packed podcasts full of the Word of God. We have many ways available to us through our technology to keep the Holy Spirit stirred up inside of us.
Next time you feel low, remember to stir up the gift on the inside. Allow the Helper to help you with everything you put your hand to today.
Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of me. Thank you for this reminder to keep Him stirred up throughout my day. Amen.
