Be a Friend
A man who has friends must himself be friendly. But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24
One of the things we would always tell our kids is if you want a friend, you have to be a friend. That’s how the kingdom principles work - sowing and reaping. We usually think of sowing and reaping as financial, but it’s the way everything is designed to function. If you want more of something, you need to first give it yourself.
Relationships are no different. Did you ever notice that when you are having a good day and have a smile on your face, people around you seem to be more positive as well? Of course, it works the opposite way as well. When you’re grumpy, you make everyone around you grumpy too. I’m sure we all have heard the saying, “if momma ain’t happy, nobody’s happy!”
If you are in need of a friend, sow kindness, an encouraging word, or just a smile. Notice the needs of others and help fill those needs if you can. Friendship is about being there for someone else. If you have a close friend, think about what makes them that way. Thank them and God for the ways they have brought joy into your life.
Dear Lord, give me creative ideas on how to bless my friends. Show me those who might be feeling lonely and in need of a friend today. Amen.
