Jesus At the Center
You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. Deuteronomy 11:19
Did you know that going to church makes you as much of a Christian as being in a garage makes you a car? Okay, funny comparison, but many times parents tend to think that sending their children to church as a child will point them in the right direction. However, the reality is that children learn more from what they see and experience on a daily basis than once a week in church.
Our children didn’t just learn about God at church, but they experienced God every day. Bryce and I don’t just preach but practice what we preach. In fact, many times, we would have our greatest teaching moments around the dinner table. They also saw how we depended on God during hard times and how we put our faith in action for everything.
God was woven through the fabric of our lives in our conversations and actions. As the verse says, we teach our children the Word of God by living it out before them. When a child personally experiences the power of the Holy Spirit in their lives, they won’t easily be swayed away from the truth they have witnessed.
If you desire for your children to live for God, it starts with you. They will copy what they see and experience far more than what they hear. Make church a way of life, not just a place that you go.
Dear Lord, help me teach Your Word to my children and others through living out the Word in my life. Amen.
