Do Unto Others
Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, and your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Isaiah 58:8
Wow! What an encouraging scripture! Your healing shall spring forth speedily! This verse comes on the heels of God's instruction to bring that promise to pass. Do you know what it is? It's loving and blessing your neighbor with good deeds. Verses 6-7 say, "Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; when you see the naked, that you cover him, and not hide yourself from your own flesh?"
It's easy to focus on our needs so much that we can't see our neighbor's needs. However, the kingdom of God always works by sowing and reaping. God is essentially saying in this passage of scriptures that when you care for others and ensure their needs are taken care of, He will see to it that all your needs are met.
On July 5th, a few days ago, a big storm swept through my little town. We had tennis ball-sized hail with 80 mph winds. The back of our house looks as though it was shot by a machine gun! Many windows around town were broken out, and some cars looked like they were in a roll-over accident. It was devastating to our little community. Although everyone experienced loss in some form or fashion, neighbors showed up to help neighbors. Everyone pitched in to help clean up the mess of fallen trees and nail boards over broken windows. Our community cares about each other, which shows in times like these.
What an example of how we are always to live – looking out for others. This scripture will come to pass in our lives when we do that. "Your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, and your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard." Amen!
Dear Lord, help me see my neighbor's needs and be your hands and feet to help meet those needs. Thank you for your promise of healing and blessing in my life. Amen.
