Peace and Sleep

I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8

Have you ever struggled to get to sleep or stay asleep? I think most of our hands just went up! I usually sleep well, but there have been plenty of nights where sleep alludes me. It usually occurs when I am stressed about something or have a lot going on in my life.

This verse is for such a night as that! God is our safety, and He has every situation you face in control – IF you give it to Him. That’s the problem, right? We pray and ask God to help us yet continue to think about and worry about whatever it is that’s bothering us.

However, if we trust God, we should be able to cast our care on Him (as 1 Peter 5:7 says) and sleep like we believe He is taking care of us. That’s what real trust is. It’s having faith in God and His promises. We have all kinds of sleep aids and apps to help calm our minds, but have you ever used the Word of God?

Use this verse as your promise. Then speak it out using the confession found in the Renew magazine below, “I enjoy peaceful sleep every night, for God is with me and keeps me safe.” Speaking the Word ignites your faith in God. You will be able to lie down in peace and sleep every night. I suggest listening to soft worship music to help your mind and spirit enter into rest more easily. I recommend the album Peace by Bethel Music. You will be asleep in no time!

Dear Lord, thank you for the promise of peace and rest. I trust that you are with me and care about me so I can enter into the rest that only You provide. Amen.
