A Heart At Peace

A sound heart is life to the body, but envy is rottenness to the bones. Proverbs 14:30

We have been focused on the subject of health this month at Schaffer Ministries. When we think of health, we immediately think of our physical health. Praise God! The Bible has a lot to say about our physical health and healing. But it also has a lot to say about our mental health. When the Bible talks about your soul, it refers to your mind, will, and emotions.

We are a three-part being. You are a spirit. You have a soul, and you live in a body. The soul is a little difficult to understand because it is connected to your spirit as well as your body. We can see that in the verse for today. I like the AMPC version of the scripture. It says, “A calm and undisturbed mind and heart are the life and health of the body, but envy, jealousy, and wrath are like rottenness of the bones.” The NLT says it this way, “A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones.”

The health of your soul (your mind) really does impact your health in every way. Science backs up what the Bible says. Fear, anxiety, worry, jealousy, bitterness, unforgiveness, and many other awful emotions can impact your health just as much as having cancer or another disease.

Having a peaceful mind is everything – isn’t it? When we are at peace, it gives life to our bodies. Science has even found that laughter really is the best medicine. The health of your soul – good or bad, will affect your body.

We can choose to have a sound heart and be joyful no matter what happens in our lives. If we focus on God and continually cast our cares upon Him, we can have peace and joy in the midst of whatever situation we face.

Dear Lord, I choose to cast my cares upon you and choose peace and joy today. Amen.
