Like Honeycomb

Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones. Proverbs 16:24

Have you ever noticed how much the Bible talks about your words? We know that God's Words are very powerful from the very beginning when He declared, "Let there be light!" He spoke the world into existence and then made the human race in His image. That means that we are to do things the way God does things.

Jesus showed us the heart of the Father here on earth. And don't we know, He was very particular about His Words. You never heard Jesus complaining or speaking doubt and unbelief. He only spoke life! As His disciples, we are to follow in His footsteps as well. We are to use our words for healing and to bring life, not grief and despair.

Our verse says, "pleasant words are like honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones." Honeycomb contains essential vitamins and minerals. It helps with heart and liver health and eases allergy and cold symptoms. It also helps to fight inflammation and illness, improves gut health, and promotes better sleep. Wow! It's pretty cool that pleasant words are compared to honeycomb.

Hearing words toward us that are edifying can change us from the inside out. There was a social experiment done by a young artist named Shea Glover. She decided to film things she found beautiful, including other students. Most of the students were strangers she didn't know. The reactions of the students hearing they were beautiful were priceless. They instantly smiled as they were flooded with good feelings from her words.

What a remarkable experiment to try! If you think someone is beautiful, tell them. If you like something about them, don't keep those thoughts to yourself, but share them. Your words will be like honeycomb to their soul.

Dear Lord, use me today to bring edification to someone. Let my words be pleasant to those who hear them. Amen.
