Laughter is the Best Medicine
A merry heart does good, like medicine. But a broken spirit dries the bones. Proverbs 17:22
Did you know it’s scientifically proven that a smile or laughing will make you feel better? The Mayo clinic has even written about the benefits of laughing! Having a good laugh is like taking a shot of medicine. According to the Mayon Clinic, laughing can:
“Stimulate many organs. Laughter enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increases the endorphins that are released by your brain.
Activate and relieve your stress response. A rollicking laugh fires up and then cools down your stress response, and it can increase and then decrease your heart rate and blood pressure. The result? A good, relaxed feeling.
Soothe tension. Laughter can also stimulate circulation and aid muscle relaxation, both of which can help reduce some of the physical symptoms of stress.”
The Clinic goes on to name more long-term effects of laughing as well. Plus, a really good laugh can give you a GREAT ab workout!
Whenever you’re feeling down, listen to a Christian comedian or America’s Funniest Videos. For me, listening to babies laughing get’s me going every time! So, what are you waiting for? Have a good laugh! Here is a video to help you out!
Dear Lord, thank You for the gift of laughter and how it helps heal my body and soul. Amen.
