What Are You Thinking About?
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2
As we have discussed before, your soul's health is everything! 3 John 2 says, "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul propers." So we know that the health of our soul is essential. Remember that the soul consists of your mind, will, and emotions. Therefore a verse like Romans 12:2 is needed because it reveals how to have a healthy soul.
Our minds are to be renewed daily. How do we do that? We renew our minds by reading and meditating on the Word of God. Reflect for a moment about how much you think about in a day. Our minds are constantly going – even while we sleep. Now take an audit of sorts about the kinds of things you think about. Do the majority of your thoughts line up with Philippians 4:8? Are your thoughts true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and praiseworthy? If not, we must spend time renewing our minds with the Word. God's Word is all of those things that Philippians 4:8 lists. If you think and meditate on scriptures enough, you will think yourself happy! Your mind will become healthy and whole, and you will be able to take thoughts captive that don't fit that list (2 Cor. 10:5).
Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Do you see how the Word addresses every part of who you are? The Word is that powerful – and is alive! It will meet you right where you're at whenever you open it up.
Make reading your Bible a priority every day. Don't be conformed to the world, swept up in the negativity, but renew your mind and therefore renew your health every day.
Dear Lord, thank you for Your Word that renews my mind daily. Your Word is health to me – spirit, soul, and body. Amen.
