Health and Wisdom

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones. Proverbs 3:7-8

Have you ever been around a toddler, or anyone for that matter, who was wise in their own eyes? They thought they were right and couldn’t be convinced otherwise. A pastor of mine once asked this question. Are you right about everything? Well, of course, we would all be quick to relent that it is highly unlikely that we are right about everything. But the next question is more thought-provoking. What then are you wrong about?

It’s hard to humble ourselves and admit when we are wrong. But that is the only way to get God’s direction and blessing on your life. We think we know what’s best – especially concerning our own lives- but this verse puts us all in our place.

I don’t want to be wise in my own eyes. My way might be okay, but God’s way comes with the blessing and grace and everything we need to be successful. It would seem that seeking God’s wisdom would be a no-brainer. Our verse promises that following God’s way - seeking His wisdom will be health to our flesh and strength to our bones. That is a beautiful promise!

Perhaps you could spend time journaling and having an honest conversation with God. Ask Him where you are wrong. But most of all, ask Him for His wisdom for your life.

Dear Lord, I pray that I have your wisdom and guidance in all areas of my life. Show me where I am wrong so I can make quick adjustments following your will. Amen.
