Founded on the Word
My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. Proverbs 4:22
Happy Independence Day! I am so thankful for the United States of America and the privilege to call it home. I’m grateful that we are a nation founded on godly principles – that even our money proclaims, “In God we trust.”
I believe the success that America has had is because of that foundation. Any person or group of people who purpose to seek God first will have all things added to them, as Matthew 6:33 says. Our verse for today also encourages us about the importance of giving our attention to the Word of God. We are to keep our focus on God.
Again, this verse comes with a promise. God’s Word is health to our flesh when we keep our eyes on it. The same goes for our country and anyone who gives the Word attention. The opposite is also true. If we neglect the Word of God, sin has full reign to steal, kill, and destroy. Isn’t that what John 10:10 says? “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
Jesus is the Word made flesh. When we are found in Him, live in Him, and abide in Him, abundant life is sure to follow. How can you give more attention to the Word in your life?
Dear Lord, Thank you for Jesus and for the Word of God. I thank You that this country was founded on the Word and therefore reap the blessing because of it. I pray that our government would continue to seek you and that I would give more attention to the Word in my life. Amen.
