The Meaning of the Cross

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18

I've seen crosses everywhere. They are bumper stickers, jewelry, bookmarks, wall decorations, carried through streets, put at the top of church steeples, and have become the symbol of Christianity. While I don't have a problem with that in general, the cross is only as good as your understanding of it.

The Great Transfer of power that took place on that cross is the real story. Jesus became the payment for our sin and paid the price for our peace and paid the price for the greatest transfer of power in the history of this world. He took our sin, we took His righteousness. He took our poverty, we took His riches. Jesus took on all of man's sickness and disease so we could live a healthy life. Jesus conquered hell itself so we would have victory over everything satan throws at us. Jesus suffered death so we would never have to experience it. And to top it all off, God once again has fellowship with man, a forever, ongoing fellowship that can never be broken. That's what the cross means!
