Blessed Because of Obedience

But Simon answered and said to Him, "Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” Luke 5:5

How often do we cut ourselves short on God's blessing? Jesus had borrowed Peter's boat to preach from, and when He finished, Jesus wanted to bless Peter. In verse 4, Jesus instructed Peter to let down his nets, but Peter let down a net. That one net caught so many fish that Peter had to call in another boat to help. There were so many fish that both boats were on the verge of sinking. What would have happened if Peter had let down all his nets?

It is my belief that the whole fishing fleet would have been involved in the harvest, which, in turn, would have blessed the whole town. We can be so shortsighted when it comes to God's blessing! We think in terms of receiving a blessing off of our giving when perhaps we should be thinking in terms of how many people could be blessed because of our obedience.
