God is a Good God

"....the goodness of God leads men to repentance." Romans 2:4b

It intrigues me how much misinformation is used to describe God. Years ago, The denomination that Oral Roberts belonged to tried to vote him out of the church. What did he do to get that reaction? He said that God was a good God!

I remember evangelists who came to our church when I was a boy made God seem scary. The objective seemed to be to scare you into being a Christian. One of the favorite sayings of the day was, "God will get you for that!" Well, God is good! There is only goodness in Him. There is no bad in Him and no evil. God never does bad things to us, so then He can show His "goodness". All we have to do is look at Jesus. He said, "If you've seen Me, you've seen the Father". (John 14:9) Jesus also said, "I only do what I see the Father do". (John 5:19)

When did Jesus ever do anything bad? He didn't because He couldn't. He only did what God did, and God never did anything bad. There are some places in the Old Testament where it certainly looked like God did some bad things, but that was only because He was dealing with people that worshiped anything and everything, and He was willing to take the heat, so to speak, to keep satan from being worshiped.
