An Unchanging World

"Continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and don't move away from the gospel which you heard." Colossians 1:23 (paraphrased)

As I was contemplating this verse, a question rose up in me, "How does the word, that doesn't change, fit in with a world that's always changing?" I've never thought about it before, but it certainly needs an answer.

The Bible speaks to the inner man, not outward circumstances. God is all about the condition of our heart going through the circumstances of life, not the circumstances themselves. There has always been evil in this world. People have always lied, cheated, taken what wasn't theirs to take, and manipulated others to get their way.

I was watching a show on TV where a Navy jet was landing on a carrier during a storm. The ship was subject to the wind and waves, being tossed all over the place. The pilot in that airplane never changed to match the ship but stayed steady and on course, and landed safely. As I watched this drama unfold, the truth of this verse became clear to me.

Don't be moved away from God's truth, no matter what you are feeling. Stay rooted and grounded in the word, steadfast in your commitment to it. The unchanging word of God will defeat circumstances that always change.
