It Involves Character

"Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill? He who swears to his own hurt and does not change." Psalm 15:1&4b

This is just one of the directives found in chapter 15, but it is so important to practice. We live in a world where a man's word is not his bond anymore. People are willing to honor what they said until it gets hard. As soon as a little pressure is applied, people fold. I had a father-and-son combination that wanted to work for me. I had real misgivings about them due to previous experience with relatives or even close friends working together. You never lose one; you lose two. They were adamant that they were not like that. They didn't even last the week before they left together. It is very rare to find someone who finishes what they promised when things get a little hard.

I have pondered this one a lot, and the only answer I can come up with involves character. Who you really are will come out eventually. Your words are the most important thing you possess. Nearly every one of us has failed a time or two in this area; I know I have. Isn't God's grace wonderful? All we have to do is repent and start over. Of course, people aren't quite that easy, but it can be done. Just determine to be a person who honors God in all areas.
