Before Jesus
Amos 3:7 says that God does nothing unless He shares with His prophets first. I marvel at a prophet like Isaiah, who spent much of his life calling in the future. In this verse, Isaiah is saying that God eliminates sin when, at this time, that didn't exist.
There was no forgiveness of sin before Jesus. The blood of bulls and goats couldn't take away sin, only cover it. So what happened to all the people who died under the old covenant? Well, they didn't go to heaven because they didn't experience the new birth. They went to paradise. Remember Jesus talking to the thief on the cross? He told him, "Today, you will be with Me in paradise!"
The last thing Jesus did before leaving hell was lead all of those people into salvation and took them to heaven with Him. What a defeat for satan!
With his words here, Isaiah ushered in salvation for mankind through faith in Jesus. What a gift we have been given!
