Being a Sheep

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." Psalm 23:1

The last thing on a sheep's mind is having his needs met. He looks to his shepherd to have every need met. It doesn't concern itself with all the details of life. Every need it has ever had has always been taken care of, and it's not going to start caring now.

Isn't that the way we should be? We should know Jesus is watching out for us and live our lives that way.

When the Bible compares us to sheep, it's not a compliment. If you've ever spent time around sheep, you know that their favorite pastime is to wander off. That pretty much explains us. We really want to follow Jesus, but then we wander off. Pretty soon, we are trying to meet our own needs because we can't find the shepherd. We start to look at ourselves, and the shepherd is left out. We can really mess things up when we attempt to be our own shepherd.
