Spirit Vs Soul
"Now May the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:23
Many people believe that spirit and soul are two different words describing the same thing. This is inaccurate because Hebrews 4:12 talks about dividing spirit and soul. If they are the same, then they couldn't be divided.
The soul, in simple terms, is your mind, will, and emotions. The mind is not your brain. The brain is an organ the mind works out of. This has been proven by people who were clinically brain dead who recovered and could remember things that happened even though their brain was measuring no activity at all.
When we accept Jesus as Lord, our spirit is changed at that moment. We become a new creation. Our soul is a blank slate that needs to be renewed to the things of God (Romans 12:2). Our soul and spirit become a team yearning for the things of God.
