One Step at a Time

There is an old adage that says, "how do you travel 100 miles? One step at a time." I had a teacher in junior high who would say, "You can expend a lot of energy, but if nothing changes, nothing got done!" Smart man.

There are people that are always busy, but they really don't accomplish a thing. I've always liked this verse because it contains such amazing truths that we tend to overlook. It doesn't matter whether you are building a business, going to school, planning that dream vacation, or living a God-pleasing life. Three things are certain! There is a starting point, there is an order of events, and there is an end result. That, in a nutshell, is how things get done.

I watched a man put a campground together. He borrowed a huge amount of money and started building his dream. The problem he ran into was he didn't have a clear starting point, so he started everything at once. He would start another phase before the last one was done. It wasn't long before he ran out of money and had nothing done. I've seen people do the same thing with the Bible. They want to be "Joe Superchristian" right out of the gate, not giving time and order a place to operate.

When God called Moses, it took him 40 years to get ready for the mission he was called to. It took Noah 100 years to build the ship God needed. John spent years in the wilderness before God could really use him. Whatever you do, do it for God's glory. He gives us the time, and there is an order.
